In a move that promises to bolster their defensive prowess, the Jacksonville Jaguars made a calculated choice with the 96th pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Their selection… “JARRIAN JONES“, a dynamic Defensive Back hailing from Florida State University.
Jones, who stands at a formidable 5-foot-11 and weighs in at 190 pounds, showcased his skills over five seasons of college football. Beginning his journey at Mississippi State in 2019 before transferring to FSU, he’s been a stalwart presence in the defensive backfield.
A native of Magee, Mississippi, Jones honed his craft at Northwest Rankin High School in Flowood, Mississippi. His transition to the NFL comes on the heels of a standout season with FSU, where his contributions were pivotal in the team’s defensive successes.
During his tenure at FSU, Jones amassed an impressive stat sheet, tallying 96 tackles, 12 pass breakups, a sack, five interceptions, and a touchdown. His breakout performance in 2023 earned him recognition as an All-ACC honorable mention, alongside accolades such as the FSU Defense Most Improved Player and the esteemed Bobby Bowden Leadership Award.
Jones’s prowess as a cornerback shines brightest in man coverage, where his fluid movements and keen awareness allow him to shadow receivers effectively. His ability to read routes and react swiftly positions him as a formidable force in both man and zone schemes.
Moreover, Jones’s speed is a game-changer, evident in his 4.38-second 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine. This explosiveness was on full display in 2023 when he returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown, showcasing his knack for turning defense into instant offense.
While Jones may initially provide depth for the Jaguars, his potential impact cannot be understated. With his blend of speed, coverage skills, and physicality, he’s primed to make waves in the NFL, offering a tantalizing glimpse into Jacksonville’s defensive future.
Jones will be wearing #22 with the Jaguars.
